CWL for Small and Mid-Size Clans: Roster and Bonus Strategy
Most Clan War League advice is written for stacked 50-member clans that can field a perfect 15 or 30 and 3-star everything. If you're running a small or casual clan — 10 to 25 active members, mixed Town Halls, a few people who miss attacks — that advice doesn't fit. CWL is genuinely different at your size, and played well it's one of the best sources of magic items and medals in the game. Here's how to run it when you don't have a bench of identical max accounts.
Pick the right league size, not the biggest one
The first decision is roster size — 15v15 or 30v30 — and the instinct to "go bigger for more rewards" is usually wrong for small clans. Your constraint isn't roster slots, it's reliable attackers. A 15v15 where every spot is filled by someone who actually attacks will out-perform a 30v30 padded with members who miss half their hits.
Rule of thumb: only field a roster size you can fully staff with people who'll attack all seven days. Missed attacks are the single biggest thing that sinks small clans in CWL — a zero is worse than a one-star. If you're not sure you can keep 30 people attacking for a week, run 15.
Line up your roster by strength, top to bottom
Unlike a regular war, CWL matters across seven days, and the map order matters. Arrange your roster so your strongest, most reliable attackers are at the top of the lineup. This does two things: it puts your best attackers against the enemy's best bases (where stars are hardest to get and most valuable), and it means if a weaker member misses, the damage lands lower on the map where it costs you less.
Keep your Town Hall spread in mind: a TH13 attacking down into TH11 bases is a near-guaranteed three stars, while a TH13 reaching up into TH15 is a coin flip. In a mixed clan, who you put in each day is as important as how they attack.
Don't field people who can't contribute that day
You don't have to play everyone every day, and you shouldn't. CWL lets you set a fresh lineup each round. If someone's heroes are down, or they're a Town Hall below the bracket and would just feed stars, bench them for the day. A clean lineup of attackers who can actually star beats a "fair" lineup that includes dead weight. Rotate so everyone gets days in for the participation, but never sacrifice a war day to be nice.
